The Last Few Days: Farewell, Freedom, and Everything In Between

Tomorrow, my colleagues at the office are hosting a small send-off get-together for me as I near the end of my consultancy and prepare for early retirement. Honestly, I wasn’t too comfortable with the idea at first—I’ve never been one for the spotlight. But they insisted, and I appreciate the gesture more than I can say.
There’s a quiet sadness in knowing these are my last few days in a place that’s been such a big part of my life. Yet, there’s also a sense of lightness and quiet freedom—like I’m gently stepping out of one chapter and into another that’s still unwritten.
It’s not easy to say goodbye, even when you know it’s the right time. But I’ll leave with a grateful heart, holding on to the memories and looking forward to what lies ahead, whatever it may be.

I have gone through this when I called it a day at my office much before the retirement age.

Before I could finally say goodbye to a place I had grown accustomed to going to every day, it took me a few more months. Though they are different, I know them well, so we will not be seeing each other every day. Being unable to interact with people I have grown accustomed to seeing on a daily basis makes me feel both excited and sad.

Saying goodbye to people whom you spend most of your time with is really one of the most difficult things to do. We do a lot of send-off to our colleagues who either decided to transfer to other agency or retired from the service and true there are lots of story telling, shedding tears and good wishes.

Although my official retirement date was December 31 of last year, I stayed on for a few more months as a consultant—so I haven’t quite stepped fully into retirement just yet. But with this month coming to a close, I feel that a new light may finally be shining my way.
