Above is a picture of the art project I've been working on. A guy called Chris in church had these pictures of God holding up the city of Lichfield, and one week he showed them to me and my friend Louise. She said I would be able to paint that. So Chris gave me one of the pictures. I took it to the photo expert shop and got it photocopied, then I put a grid on it so that I could enlarge it to A3. I drew another grid with the same number of squares on a sheet of A3 acrylic paper. Then I copied the picture to the A3 sheet square by square. It took about a week in the afternoons of Monday, Tuesday and Friday to finish the drawing. The following week, on the Thursday, I started on the painting. Even though I was doing it on acrylic paper, I painted it in watercolour. I did the brown on the buildings first, then when that was dry I started on the trees. I painted in the darkest greens first, and then added some of the lighter greens. The week after that I put in some more greens, then I did the foreground green. Then I did the blue in what is supposed to be Stowe Pool and the blue of the sky. I made sure I left a space where the ray of light is. When the sky was dry I went back over the edges of the clouds with a damp sponge to just blur them a bit so.the clouds didn't look too sharp. Then I put the ray of light in and painted the words in red. I left the hands white so that they would show up. I left it to dry, and then, because the edges had curled up, I put it under a couple of heavy books to flatern it. On Sunday I put it in the carry case I'd gotten from The Works on Friday and took it to church to give to Chris. I saw him before church and gave it to him. He took a look at it and thought it was wonderful. But he didn't seem to realise I wanted him to keep it. I said, that's yours now. He said he'd let me have the case back, and I said, Oh, you can keep that. After church when I was about to go home, he came up and said, Oh, here's young Sharon! (I thought 55 year old young!) What do you think of the painting? I hope you are well. Have a nice day.
