To prevent driver drowsiness.. Flabbergasted. What if your car does not have air conditioning as mine never did in the St Louis over 100F heat? I was able to drive perfectly well with no record of accidents. I think the UK is out of order on this one. Just me. What do you think about this new rule that a driver can be fined 5000 pounds for not turning on their car's air conditioning? And how the BH are they going to enforce it? Pfft..

Sounds like an odd regulation. What's the rationale behind it?

That's a big amount! How are they going to know who are not turning on the aircon? This rule may not be applicable in our country because there are still a lot of vehicles that has no air conditioning unit like jeepneys. Though I always turn on the aircon in my car be cause I need to do so due to the hot weather.

@RebeccasFarm Perhaps they can if they have an instrument set to check the temperature inside each vehicle passing through a specific point. Similar to the one being used to check the speed of each vehicle. You will just be surprised when renewing your car registration that you already committed a lot of violations.

That seems a really stupid idea to me. If you're really tired a bit of cool air isn't going to keep you awake for long. As you say, how will they enforce it?
