I live in an apartment complex and in late January we were in the process of getting ready to transfer to a larger apartment two buildings up. I had had surgery a few weeks before that, so I couldn't walk to the post office to do the change of address like I always had before in my life when we moved.
When I got online to the USPS.com and I filled out the change of address form i now told me that it was going to cost me $1.10, if I wanted to do the change of address for six months it was going to cost around $27 or for one year it would be $43!!!!!!!
Then I get an email from them with a bar code on it saying that I need to bring it to the post office along with my ID after I had to pay for it!
The next day I called the post office and asked about the change of address cards and was told they no longer had them. The only way to do change of address was online then come to a branch with the barcode!
Finally getting able to walk that far with the doctors permission and the weather being nicer I walked to the post office today because I had been told by the mail carrier that my change of address did not go thru. I was told that I either had to do it over and pay again or fill out a form there. He pulled out the card we used to fill out. I was shocked and said they told me that you no longer had these and he rolled his eyes
and said," Figures! Yes we do, but they are behind the desk.
Also he was the only one at the desk, about three years ago they closed the outgoing mail drops, if we receive mail for the previous tenant we have to take it to the post office, the mail carrier does not bring the small packages to our door. The top opening to the boxes are a bit larger then then bottom where we remove our mail. She crams the package in there and it's hard to get out. One of my packages was a picture frame I bought for my elderly mother and the way it was crammed in the box it broke.
. I returned it for an exchange but that one was the last one they had.
The post office charges that for change of address, raises the cost of postage every July 13th and give terrible service most of the time.

They charge for a change of address? And all they do is raise their rates. Ridiculous.

Yes they are ridiculous!!!!!! Yeah, except for when we go in the post office to do it and you talk to the right person. Most of them tell you it cannot be done thee anymore it must be done online. If you do it online you have to pay $1.10 (short time). Then you get an email with a link on it which you have to show to them and show them your ID where they scan in the computer to see that you changed your address with DMV!
Next they will want my life history!

Sorry to learn that you had such a terrible experience. In our country, most of the couriers are private companies. We still have the post office but since they cannot cope with the current demand, the people opt to use the service of the private couriers. It's okay to pay a little higher for as long as we get a good service.
