Always Bet On the "S" Horse

I had always heard the saying, "Always bet on the gray" when referring to the color of the horse in the horse race. Plus gray horses are pretty. Hubby bet on all 4 of the gray horses in yesterday's Kentucky Derby. They did not win.
But before the race I read an article about interesting Kentucky Derby trivia and it said that horses' names that started with the letter "S" won the Derby 19 times, which is more times than any other horse name starting with any other letter.
Well, hubby bet on Sandman, which was both a gray horse and started with the letter "S." (This was before we had read the article about "S" names) but it didn't win.
But guess who DID win the Kentucky Derby yesterday? Sovereignty! An "S" horse. I'll be darned. There's something to that after all.

I don't follow the Derby; but that's interesting.

I haven't witness a horse racing event and I am not sure if we have this thing here in our place. But I do think it could be very exciting especially if you have a bet.

That is really cool to know! Maybe it's something I can keep in mind for future Derbys!
I don't bet, but I did pick Sandman to win the Derby because I like its reference to the Metallica song of the same name. I also wanted to see Render Judgement do well since it was one of Toby Keith's horses, and finally I wanted Baeza to do well with Jockey Prat riding him, because Prat had already won two races earlier in the day.
