Jasmine and Her Plastic Ware

When I was returning from the cyber office I found this woman carrying plastic wares on her head and on one of her shoulders . On the other shoulder she carried a bundle of clothes. I asked the woman how much was she selling this basket for. She told me that she exchanged these plastic wares for old sarees. However, she could sell me the basket for 120 rupees. I had a 500 rupee note and she didn't have money enough to return me the remainder. I asked her if she could come near our home. She readily came but I still couldn't find loose money to give her 100 rupees. She waited patiently. After about fifteen minutes I could garner 100 rupees and gave the cash to her . This vending work is common among women of low income groups. They carry such kitchen utensils and baskets and exchange them for old sarees. A work that doesn't fetch much income but at least a few bucks for otherwise unemployed women. I don't have sarees ( How can a man have female clothes?) but I plan to buy some kitchen articles in near future So I asked Jasmine ( translated from Bengali Champa, a flower) to come this way again.

That's good of you to support Jasmine in this way.

After talking with her I got to know that she comes from a village about 25 kms far. As she has a family to support she cannot sit idle at home.

@franxav That's a very long way for her to walk.
