Let's Talk About The Gulf of America

United States
May 8, 2025 8:16am CST
People seem to think that President Donald J. Trump is being silly or egotistical or juvenile about renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. But have you really looked into WHY he's doing it? The United States has more land mass there in the gulf than does Mexico The United States maintains the Gulf The Unit States Military protects the Gulf The United States has the majority of ships going through the Gulf The United States has more oil drilling and fishing in the Gulf Now does it make more sense to you? It's not an arbitrary or capricious whimsical act. It makes perfect sense.

It makes no sense to me at all. Does the name really matter except to show how prejudice a person can be. If you look up the history at one time Mexico claimed most of that area and that's when it was named

I agree. And America is more than the United States. So we must accept and honour history. The next thing he´ll be thinking is to name it the Gulf of the US.

@marguicha I seen a headline saying he is thinking about renaming something else but I didn't read what.

@wolfgirl569 Something in Persia. And how about turning Gaza into a resort?

If all of that is true, what about the respect to leave the name as it has been? Is that such a terrible thing? He cannot go around rubber stamping America on everything that he decides he wants to, regardless of the land mass or anything else. Does he want to rename the Atlantic Ocean too?

@LooeyVille There is a lot of difference between a street and a country.

So this doesn't apply to you because you're in Canada, but in the USA the Leftist Democrats renamed EVERYTHING! They renamed sports teams that had indigenous names, they removed Civil War statues and erased history, they changed "illegal immigrants" to "undocumented citizens". Almost every city in the USA has renamed a street to Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Names change all the time.

@Juliaacv No. no, no, that's not what I meant. I meant I was describing things that happened in the past in the USA that perhaps had not happened in Canada. I didn't mean the renaming of the Gulf didn't apply to you or that things the USA President did does not affect you. No, no, no, that's not at all what I meant. I meant that people in the USA have been bad about renaming things, unlike the wonderful people in Canada who respect things. What I should have said is, "You may not know this because you live in Canada, but in the USA, people have been stupid about renaming things." I love Canada. I love the people from Canada. I love you. I would never disrespect or bully you. No, no, that's not what I was saying.

All this had done is make the United States more despised than it was.

I used to love the US and visited it many times. Now I would not dare go there.

Yes, and that’s all that is getting accomplished. The constant yakking about Canada becoming our 51st state is beyond ridiculous. We can’t just keep alienating other countries because our president has a bee in his bonnet to acquire more and more power.
