Horses in Central Park

I was reading a news thing where this guy, I think actor, was saying he was sleeping where they kept the horses in Central Park.
Okay....
Sometime around the time my parents met, I think after they married and probably after they went to Colorado so Dad could get his Masters. But, you know, before kids. Still, this was the time frame when Mom rode a horse in Central Park. They lived in North Jersey, so not as crazy as you might think.
And that was the only time Mom rode a horse until she decided to go on a horse/camping trip in Yellowstone, with my sister. Mom looked around to try and find someone to give her lessons on riding. Not English like I had learned, nope, they were camping in Yellowstone.
But she asked me to come along to the first interview with the lady. She confessed to her the only time she had been on a horse was in her twenties and now she was in her 60s, maybe early 70s, but I don't think so. The lady kind of looked at me, probably wondering why I was along, but she mostly talked to Mom.
Still, I had always kind of wondered where the horses were kept for them in Central Park, so I went and looked.
If you want to know, I'd advise you to look it up on your own. I just wanted to tell the story about Mom and the horse in Central Park
Any of you live in the area? Have you ridden a horse there? The only horse in a park I've ever ridden was in Brackenridge Park in San Antonio. They don't do that anymore. And that is a story for another day!

I drove around New York when I took my daughter to college but have never been in the city there.
I grew up on a working farm. We raised horses and cattle and I rode horses from the time I was little until after I moved out of mom's house at 18... Then took my daughter to a trail ride in Branson, Missouri. I rode along with them. I always liked riding horses.

@DaddyEvil my Great Aunts lived in this house until the ends of their lives. They commuted to work in New York City... on the train because driving into the city is a NIGHTMARE! Aunt Lib passed in her 90s I think, late 80s anyway, but she passed in the 1990s.

@ElicBxn I didn't want to try driving in NYC. That's why we skirted around the city.
You've lost a lot of family. I'm sorry.

Never been to New York. So, no. Not sure I'd want to go, though.

@ElicBxn I would love to see it too. Growing up in St. Augustine they did horse and buggy rides. Still do.

Never been there. I haven't ridden in about 15 years now. I sometimes miss doing it

I've been to New York City, Dad's mom and step-father lived there to the end of their lives. I was told the building we were standing under was the Empire State Building, but looking up all we could see above about the 10th floor was clouds. I never saw Central Park either. I haven't ridden in about 30 years and I still miss it.

It depends on how you feed them. People who have never been around horses it is always best to offer the treat with a flat palm. You should never let a horse, especially an unknown horse, get where they could get any part of your hand. If you know the horse and the treat is large enough, that's different. I used to hold the carrot and let whatever horse I was riding that day take a bite. The next time, I would let them take the rest of the carrot, but I would have the part they would be grabbing, away from my hand.
