Things Old People Say That Young People Don't Understand

We forget that technology has changed when we tell our grandkids to "Dial the Number." They look at us like we're crazy. What does "dial" mean? That dates back to rotary phones, which they've never seen. There are other expressions "older" people use that younger people don't understand. Here are just a few. "Don’t take any wooden nickels" - this one may not get said as much anymore as the generation who said that is dying off, but it comes from promotional events a decade ago where a wooden token was given out that was worthless in terms of money. "It’s like a broken record" - seriously young people today don't even know what a "record" is. It refers to vinyl musical recordings. Back then if a vinyl record was scratched or damaged, it could cause the needle to skip and repeat the same section of music endlessly or “like a broken record." "Don’t count your chickens before they hatch" - simply means to not count on things that haven't happened yet. "Over My Dead Body" - not literally of course, but it means "not on my watch" or that you're not going to let something happen.

In addition to not understanding these sayings, they won't be able to read cursive or sign their names.

These expressions are already replaced with internet slangs that old people don't understand as well. I know these expressions except the wooden nickel.

I know all of these but not the 'wooden nickel' saying. I'm one of those old people.
