Do you happen to know any high functioning downs syndrome people?

Some people who have downs syndrome are very high functioning. They seem less afflicted by it. Some are capable of driving or even going to college, as their IQ's are near normal. I saw one the other day working as a cashier in a grocery store. It's amazing when typical downs syndrome individuals have IQ's in the 30's and 40's.

Goodwill hires a lot of people with Down Syndrome, but I’m not full of knowledge or anything; I actually saw a video about job opportunities and that’s where it was mentioned.
Did you see the model with Down Syndrome? She is making good money right now. She’s a simply lovely girl. It’s not a sympathy job; she’s good. Her mother helps manage her career.

@snowy22315 Yes! I'm happy she is successful with it! That should inspire a lot of young ladies to do anything they want to do!

Not sure how common it is. Never thought I would see one as a cashier in a large grocery store either

I know of one who was very involved in her church and regularly did the readings, etc. I've also seen some in some stores. The brother of the first girl to ride a Melbourne Cup (horse race) winner was also Downs Syndrome and a highly valued strapper.

Yes, indeed some can, especially if they have a certain variation of Downs.

@kareng mentions good parenting and I think that the high functioning Downs Syndrome people tend to have had lots of help and interventions when they were children as a result of good parenting.

Are there not varying degrees of severity of the condition?

Mosaic Downs.
Never ever heard of that.
People still take the piss out of Downs people here and call them names.
I think it should be a hate crime but the lawmakers don't think so

Chris Burke who was on the TV show Life Goes ON, has Downs. He drives, and supposedly has an amazing memory.
