The "24 Hour Ant"

Ugh! An ant that can be anywhere from 0.7 to one inch in size. The length of time you may feel the pain from its sting is where the nickname came from. Up to 24 hours. Not good. A reddish-black ant with large mandibles and a huge stinger. The sting is rated as a 4+ on the Schmidt sting pain index. Luckily for us, this ant is found in the rainforests of Central and South America, not here in the U.S. Joy of joys. There are still things to be thankful for.

I hate ants with a passion. I could not handle one that large. Hopefully with global warming they won't find their way here.
