Cameras Use Magic Right?

When working at a home security company, I received a call from a customer who was angry because her security cameras were not working. After ensuring the outdoor cameras were plugged in, I asked her if her cameras were connected to the internet. I am expecting her to say yes, or maybe I would have to help her get them connected. Nope, she says "I don't have the internet. Do I need the internet for these cameras to work?" Me: "Um, yes. The cameras require Wi-Fi. That is how you are able to view the video feed." Her: "I was not told that when I purchased them." Me: Thinking to myself, how did you think you would be able to view the camera feed, magic?

Yeah, a LOT of people don't understand how the security cameras or alarm systems work. It was interesting educating them about the systems they wanted or had already bought and came back to figure out why they weren't working... People can be really clueless. One guy kept trying to hook his security system into his neighbor's internet because he could get his neighbor's signal in his house so he thought he didn't need internet himself... I asked if he'd gotten his neighbor's permission and password and he said he didn't need permission because the internet was in his house, no matter who paid for it.
