I'm the only person in my friend circle who regularly studies Sanskrit.
My friends ridicule me. They wonder why I " waste" time studying a language that is of no use to me.
I say to them I study Sanskrit because I love it and learning Sanskrit has been my passion.
They don't understand me.
I ask you if I'm wasting time. What would you say??

Well, you can get the details and confront your friends with the details of all the Colleges and Universities in Germany teaching Sanskrit!
And even if we leave it aside, it is your choice.
As a Free citizen in a democratic nation.
Many of my friends would choose checking Insta reels, YT videos or Facebook time over Mylot but if I do it, it is my own wish/hobby/decision.
Crux of it all : I do not think you are wasting your time unless of course, if you ignore the needs of your work and spend even that time on Sanskrit.
By the way, are you doing any part time course in Sanskrit?
Or learning through Online Tutorials/Videos?

I am in an occupation where I have to constantly learn new Technologies or upgrades within Technology.
One of the online courses I am doing even has Statistical Theorems.
So if anyone thinks that studies are only up to College or University level is not thinking rightly.

By the way, during the last 20 odd days I have been reading and watching a lot of Articles and videos on Geo Politics.
Since I started feeling over saturated, I have tried to slow down.
But a lot of my "learnings" have been in that area in these days !

Well, it's not the question of studying Sanskrit, my friend . They will ridicule me even if I study maths or geography or any other subject. They wonder why I study even after passing out from the college. They think, once you clear the college, you needn't study any longer.Stydy is over and it's now time to earn, eat, marry and become a father.
I study Sanskrit both offline and online. It's not a part time course. You can learn Sanskrit any time suitable to you

No, you are not wasting your time. Learning another language is fun. I am learning Italian in a post graduate school. I don’t care if others think that I am learning another language again. The important is, I am happy learning and I can use it with my Italian friends.

@thelme55 Many people think so, but it's not the case. Sanskrit is not so difficult a language.

@Shivram59 I hope you can meet others who know or are also learning Sanskrit like you. I was curious to see if there were any groups in the US - and interestingly there is an organization in my state that has a mission to promote Sanskrit as a spoken language. Follow your own heart, even if friends cannot see the path . . . you are holding the map and know where you're going

@much2say Thank you. Recently I came across an elderly gentleman who is a retired professor in Sanskrit. He was very happy to see I'm studying Sanskrit. He agreed to talk to me in Sanskrit. Now he he has gone to his village. He has promised to come back and begin teaching me how to talk in Sanskrit fluently.
I'm amazed to know that there are people in the US who promote Sanskrit.
Thank you for the info.

Thank you, my friend. As I said, Sanskrit has been my passion. It really fulfils mem. It has been a source of pleasure for me. I know I will, most possibly, not have an opportunity to use Sanskrit in my daily life or to improve my business. But I'm learning the language for my pleasure. That's why I don't care what my friends say or think about me. I know I'm doing something I love to do.
Thanks again for supporting and encouraging me, my friend.

I'd ask what they do in their spare time and ridicule right back... It's honestly none of their business what you do... You can ignore them or you can be rude right back...
I say, if that's what you feel like doing, then you do you.

Thank you, my friend. I don't care what they think it do. I know I'm learning a new thing and I love to learn it. In their opinion, I needn't learn anything just because I have cleared the college and I'm no longer a student
What can I do if they are so stupid

You need to stop caring about what other people think. If you don't take care of yourself, no one else can do it for you. That means doing things you're passionate about, so long as you're not doing it at the expense of your own health.

I take care of my health. Let me tell you I'm the healthiest in my friend circle. They are all graduates and post graduates, but now they have given up studying. I don't care what they say. I love learning Sanskrit and I do that.

You aren't wasting !! One day you will earn fruits.. once you go more deeper in this language ... who knows you might end up working in linguistic department.. People sometimes doesn't like to acknowledge or recognize your interest when it doesn't align with their interest so don't take it personal.. Keep working, spend more time who are studying Sanskrit..
All the BEST !!

Thanks for responding. I don't care what they say. I get pleasure from learning Sanskrit. I enjoy it. They don't understand it I've a grocery and I earn enough to sustain my family.
My friends are not interested in reading and learning new things. That's why they don't know the benefits of learning .Recently I met a gentleman who is a Sanskrit scholar. He will talk to me in Sanskrit and one day I'll be able to talk in Sanskrit fluently.
Thanks again for encouraging me.
