Warranty Scam

When I was working for one of the big cell phone providers, I was assisting a customer over the phone. She wanted to process a warranty for her non working phone. She was able to verify the account so I asked all of the warranty questions and processed the order. After finishing it, she then informed me she had 3 more to process. This immediately raised red flags in my head and I put her on hold. I let my manager know what was going on and he agreed. He told me to send a security pin to either a phone on the account or the email to have her verify it. Once I took her off hold and let her know, she immediately refused and hung up the call. My TL let everyone else know of the scam and didn't hear any more from that person.

We had one couple that kept coming in asking for help because their phone wouldn't work. Every time they showed up, they hunted for one of my work colleagues. I got curious so listened in... Each time it was a problem with their Sim card... My buddy would go through all the normal steps and would finally issue a new Sim for the phone.
The third time I saw that happen, I asked my buddy if that was the same Sim number they'd processed a couple of days earlier. When he told me it wasn't, I called our boss and explained that they were selling working Sims and bringing back non-working Sims. I told her it was the third or fourth time I'd seen them do that. She told me to stop the present transaction, get their names and we wouldn't be helping them anymore. Then she called all the other local dealers and explained what was happening and gave their names to the other carriers.
Some people are just... different, I guess.

@programmerprimo I'm honestly not sure. But when the same two people keep coming back with the same complaints but different Sims/phone models, there is definitely something going on. I could have stopped them coming back on my own if I could have pinpointed exactly what they were pulling but pulled in management when I couldn't figure out what their scam was.
