One of the highlights of our LA trip was celebrating a truly special milestone—our dear auntie’s 80th birthday. It wasn’t just a party; it was a tribute to a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved by her family. She is the only one still living among her siblings, which made this celebration all the more significant. It was the reason so many of us made the effort to be present—from Chicago, Colorado, and other places—gathering to honor not only her age, but the legacy she represents as the last living member of her generation. The evening was filled with joy, music, food, and the kind of noise only a big family reunion can bring. Cousins reconnected, shared laughter, and created new memories that will be cherished for years to come. Auntie, glowing with happiness, was surrounded by multiple generations who have been touched by her wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength. Her presence reminded everyone of the enduring power of family and tradition. There were heartfelt toasts, stories from the past, and a few happy tears. It was a night to remember—not just for the milestone, but for the love and connection that brought everyone together. A beautiful reminder that even as time moves on, family roots continue to hold strong.

Hearing this story from someone who has been through it all is amazing, in fact.

Having lost her last two siblings, one of whom was my father, she actually lost the desire to celebrate turning 80 because she had no siblings to share her happiness with. We, however, let her know that we, her nieces, are here to love and support her.

It was one of the factors that persuaded her to continue celebrating it. She eventually consented to celebrate after learning that all of her nieces would be there.
