I couldn't save the chick

I've been witnessing it since morning which ended tragically. There was a pair of tailor bird who had built a small nest among the leaves in our balcony. They had beautifully weaved two big leaves and had hatched eggs. It had been almost 20 days, the mumma and pappa birds were busy, and then suddenly today morning there was too much of chirping. At around 8:00 in the morning the mumma was up with her 4 chicks and training them to fly, since our balcony had been netted, there's no intervention of other bigger birds (in form of pigeons or crows etc). In between, the pappa would fly away to bring few insects in its beak and feed them. Out of the 4, one seemed to be weak, and couldn't fly and was frequently falling down and kept chirping desperately. Finally around 10:30, all the 3 chicks flew off along their mom, they were so small without any tails, but seems developed the courage to fly. Except the weak one, who was left back and kept chirping. But neither of its parents were seen in the vicinity. At around the mumma came to check on the lone chick, who was sitting along the edge of the balcony and chirping. The mumma tried to boost its confidence to fly, but failed and finally left, leaving behind the poor chick to sit there and cry. I tried to catch it and feed something, but it slipped off and went back to a lonely corner. And all of a sudden a crow came from nowhere and snatched the chick in its large beak and went off....I stood there helpless, being a witness to nature's cruel joke.

Yes, Nature's cruel joke! It's survival of the fittest. Sad but true! Mumma bird did all that she could in her capacity. My heart breaks for this tragic end of this Chick.

Awe that is horrible. At least you tried your best to save the baby chick. Momma bird should not have left it. Perhaps she knew if was ill or wouldn't make it in the wild?

@Rimps85 Yes, unless she knew something was wrong with that bird and why she deserted it. Animals will do that.

Oh-uh! That sure is a sad ending of a story. I was really hoping the chick can still make it though? I can't get over it. Huhu!
