Dull day/my kid

Today has been kind of a dull day. It is super hot here and we don't currently have any air conditioners put in (we don't have central air) and our newer cat who we found out is part Bengal thanks to his very unique meow is an escape artist and has shoved all of our ACs out of the window. Our house isn't set up for most regular window units due to the way our windows are and we have a portable one that he has also managed to get the hose out of the window and crawl out the small window opening. We have had our two other cats for over two years and neither has ever tried to escape so this is new for us and we are trying to figure out how to get our units in so he can't shove them out but we are currently working with fans. My husband duct taped the portable AC's hose in and we are hoping he doesn't find a way to get through the tape. This cat is by far more clever than our other two which I read is a Bengal cat's trait along with the distinct meow (we didn't know he was part Bengal until we got him home and he started meowing). He doesn't have the Bengal fur pattern but does have the coloring and distinct meow. Anyway, since it was hot and we can't currently safely put in an AC what I could actually get done today without overheating was very limited. I spent a lot of my day sitting in front of a fan to keep cool. I did manage to get some laundry done and make dinner, which was terrible because I had to use the oven. We've been trying to save money since I don't work over the summer which means we rarely eat out in the summer. I've made dinner with leftovers for my husband's lunch every day this week. Today I made BBQ flatbread pizza. I just put some canned pineapple on it because I didn't want to stand the heat longer to cook chicken for it and I didn't want to stand in the heat any longer than necessary to chop onion so it was just the pineapple but it turned out amazing. I got the flatbread and BBQ sauce from Aldi and it was actually a very cheap meal to make. I spent a lot of my day reading. I just finished Jennette Mccurdy's "I'm Glad My Mom Died". It was a good read but pretty graphic in some areas so I'd be cautious reading it if there are some things you are uncomfortable reading about. I just got a biography on Florence Harding from the library I plan to start tomorrow. My husband picked it up for me on his way home from work and returned our son's book he got out. I signed my son up for the summer reading program online and have been making him read 30 minutes a day. My son's state test scores came back or at least they did online and for the first time ever he scored below average in reading. My son has always had an accelerated reading score, so it shocked me. He admitted to me he didn't try very hard, but I told him that he now gets to read anyway. He informed me he has the second highest iready score in his English class, which iready is basically a way the school uses to monitor how well a child is doing in a certain subject usually Math or Reading and they have lessons tailored to a child's ability and the higher the score the better they're doing and they do iready testing which also adds to their score and helps give them appropriate lessons. My son has a fairly high score once again proving he didn't do his best on the test. I think he took for granted that he does well in reading and just flew through the reading test. I told him I don't want him to stress over state testing but he still needs to try his best. He scored in the accelerated range for the Science state test which he claimed he thought was hard. I told him the reading program through the library is the motivation he needs to get to reading. They also have a Bingo board with things on it for him to complete to get a Bingo and one of them is reading upside down. My son being the technical kid that he is and sometimes too smart for his own good flips his book upside down and reads a few words and then flips it right back up. He then informs me he read upside down. I told him I don't think that's what they meant when they said read upside down and he goes "It was upside down and they didn't specify how long I had to read upside down for". My child will find a loophole in anything. If he were more ambitious, I'd say he should become a lawyer. My son also loves to argue and will literally argue about almost anything. I told him he needs to be on the debate team and he told me no because it's too much work. He's a bright kid who is incredibly sweet and well liked by his teachers and peers but he is also as I said not the most ambitious. He likes what he likes and he hates competition. He knows who he is and as much as he isn't the most ambitious, he's incredibly caring and compassionate and committed to the things he enjoys. I feel like maybe he could become ambitious if he finds something he's truly passionate about. It's why I've encouraged him to go to the same trade high school I went to where he can find a program/career path he's interested in. Anyway, that has been my day. I was hoping to get more done apart from arguing with my teenager about making sure he reads for 30 minutes, doing some laundry, making dinner, and finishing a book but here we are. Sometimes you just need to accept what is and hope tomorrow is better or in my case cooler so I can do things without overheating. I actually wrote this last night and am just now getting around to posting it. It's a whole system where I have to write it in my email and then use my phone and copy and paste it into mylot because mylot won't let me post from my computer and I hate typing from my phone.

We got rain too and it cooled it off quite a bit thank God but thanks to the heat I am exhausted today because I couldn't sleep well last night so I'm putting things off again which will be fine. Tomorrow is supposed to be fairly cool too and I should be able to make up for my lack of work the past two days. Thanks, I hope you have a good evening too.

I know, I'm hoping we can find a way to get our AC units in without our cat knocking them out. Teenagers can be fun but they can also be a pain sometimes too. He definitely keeps me on my toes.

Your son sounds well-adjusted and pretty clever. I'm sure he'll do really well when he finds something that really sparks his interest.
