What has happened to Community television programmes ....

United Kingdom

I don't very often watch the news on the television, but I saw it yesturday and the female presenter did a piece about there not being many HGV drivers that were female. The news has just started this evening , and yet again the female presenter says they are going to show us later what happened when she had a turn at driving the HGV lorry. Sorry .....but for me this is not news. At best, it is a local interest story and should be on a local community programme NOT the news. I am sure years ago we used to have these sorts of programmes. What do you think .....

It's just a segment on the news. Just like it's always been. You need to balance the doom and gloom with something. Human interest, is just an aspect of that.

Women in the US make up 10% plus of the semi drivers here with more learning the trade. And you're right, in the UK, only 1% of the heavy haulers are women. Most of the "free" programming in the US has gone off the air now and the paid (learning) programming is being cut off by our government. trump doesn't want kids learning stuff for free before they start school... If he gets his way, kids in public schools here won't learn real facts anymore, either.
