It was a movie back in the 1970s, “Friday the 13th” with Jamie Lee Curtis, and that’s all I know. People like to pretend it is spooky, but c’mon, it’s just a day. But it is fun if you’re into scary movies and you have yourself a movie fright fest.

Exactly right yes. It is just another day. The way there is a superstition in some countries where if a cat is crossing your path it will bring bad luck. As you are saying about Friday the 13th being just another day, the cat is also just going somewhere. And then some incidents like this took place, which became coincidences actually. And Friday the 13th, a cat crossing your path, etc things like that, found roots among superstitious people.

It's a belief in western world, not in our culture. Just like we have some in our culture. I don't know how it originated. I was surprised to see that many hotels in the US don't have 13th floor or room no 13. It was intriguing to see no 13th floor button in lift.

Clear cut and straightforward reply. I liked that. Yes! It's a superstition.

Some think it's because there were 13 at the Last Supper. I've heard some other reasons too. I'm not superstitious. Are you?

Lots of legend and folklore and superstition surround the day, but it's not tied to just one thing, but several. Over time, it has of course taken on new ominousness, with coincidental things that have occurred over the years on Friday the 13th, that in reality have nothing to do with the day but just happen to have happened on the day sort of more firmly planting the mystery of it.
Personally, I am not necessarily weary of it. To me, it's just another day. If something happens it's not because it happened to be Friday the 13th, but just that's when something happened that happened to happen on the day...
If you can say that last sentence twice, really fast. lol

Correct you. Things happen and it was nothing to do with a particular day or date. Once something happens, the second time something else happens. Even the third time. And then we all start calling it a superstition.
But the Number 26 is a bit cursed number and this has been proved on a number of occasions. If you take Mumbai for example, the infamous 26/11 attacks or the 26 July rains, a few years ago - both of them took place on the 26th.
Earthquakes in India, Japan (on multiple occasions), China, Portugal, Turkey, North America took place on the 26th. However years and the months are different on a few occasions. (I am keeping the list very very short. Because if I were to mention the exact date, month, year, place, and country, it would be a very huge list.) But that has happened on the 26th of various months. There have been 50 plus such incidents so far in the history. This means "26" isn't related to a particular country or a continent. But destruction can happen on this day in any part of the world.
According to numerologists 26 comes down to 8. 6 + 2 = 8. And 8 is generally considered to be a the number of destruction.

@porwest Actually I didn't know about the number 27 related to celebrity deaths. But if you look at the overall "celebrity" category, of course there are hundreds and thousands of them the world over. And not all of them die so young. That is the reason why as you mentioned, the average is not even close to 27.
So, more than focusing on the "average" thing, naturally people are more concerned about the "27" thing.

@abhi_bangal Superstition is largely built around a number of recurring coincidences. It's like the age 27 when it comes to a large number of celebrities who just happen to die at age 27. Of course, when you look at the average age of celebrity deaths, it's nowhere even close to 27, but that number still has significance in the minds of many.
Whether or not there is any truth to any of these superstitions is to be seen. But so many people still believe in them either way, which in a way, also makes them a bit fascinating even if in a perverted or morbid sort of way.

Yeah... Friday the 13th is already gone and it went like just another day. And as you are saying nothing bad happened to almost everyone of us yesterday. So I think, Friday the 13th is just another belief.
