Jordan is shooting down Iranian missiles bound for Israel

I thought Jordan was not in good terms with Israel until recently when I heard that the country is assisting Israel to shut down Iranian missiles. Israel had earlier attacked several Iranian facilities, killing several of their top military leaders. Iran is trying to retaliate but their missiles had to cross Jordan before reaching Israel. Is Jordan protecting its territory or supporting Israel?

@ogbenishyna44 I am NOT sure. At the same time, regardless of WHY they are doing it, they are opening themselves up for retaliation by Iran, which could or could not be a bad thing, and they'd have to be calculating that risk and what their actions look like to Iran OR Israel.

@porwest That's true, Jordan may drag themselves into the war.

That’s an interesting situation! Jordan’s actions could be seen in different ways, depending on perspective. On one hand, they might simply be protecting their own airspace, ensuring that no foreign missiles cross their territory and potentially cause harm. On the other hand, their decision to intercept Iranian missiles could also be interpreted as indirectly supporting Israel, since it prevents those missiles from reaching their intended targets.
Jordan has historically had a complex relationship with Israel—while they have a peace treaty, political tensions have existed over various issues. However, when it comes to security, Jordan has often prioritized regional stability and its own national interests. In this case, their actions might be more about self-preservation rather than taking sides.
It’s definitely a delicate situation, and Jordan’s involvement could have long-term implications in the region.

Thanks for the contribution. I guess Jordan also doesnt feel safe having Iranian missiles flying over their territory.

Jordan has been on friendly terms with Israel.
Moreover, it was never sympathetic to Yemeni rebels or Hezbollah who have been supported by Iran.
Plus I suppose US might have some Military base in Jordan.
So this was quite expected.
As of now, the war seems to be escalating.
