A bit backwards, but things are getting done.

It's morning, and while I wish I'd gotten on an hour earlier, I'm thankful that things worked out the way they did. I've got laundry going, George is set with his shake, and I'll get the dishwasher after the washer is done. Last night was a bit rough, but not as bad as other nights. George is bound and determined to eat enough and prove he doesn't need his tube, but after eating he's so uncomfortable I just don't know what to think. I just encourage him and do the best I can for him. I just have to take things one day at a time. Our system is up-and-running and the sun is powering everything, including the washer. So, I'm thankful to have it back working.

I hope George will be able to get the tube out in the near future.

Going from tube feeds to oral intake isn't a quick process. It can take months, sometimes even years. When you're like George, and you're not used to eating large amounts of food, it can take longer. Because you're going against your body and trying to change it.

@LindaOHio It takes time. A lot of trail and error, and George is anything but patient at times.

I ran my dishwasher yesterday when I realized I had company coming over.

These days I wash dishes by hand. Our dish washer broke some years back and we never got a new one.

Our house didn't come with one so we bought a portable one. I can't physically hand wash dishes it'd take to long and I'd get to tired.

I think it is OK for George to eat and then feel a bit uncomfortable while his system is getting used to this again. Hopefully with time he will just be able to eat normally again with no problems, Maybe this can offer you some ideas.

I also think it depends on the person and the damage done. The stroke did damage. Some we can see, some we can't. When he swollows, it's slow. Anything he eats and drinks takes longer. That on top of the problems before the stroke, it's a lot.

Glad to hear that your system is back to running and powering everything. All any of us can do is take things a day at a time but hopefully more good days than bad
