Should Couches Have Seat Covers?

I saw something on Bing earlier this week asking whether you should use seat covers on couches or chairs.
67% said no.
My grandmother once had throws over her couch because it was well worn out.
But I've never seen anything in anybody's house like on tv where the chairs or sofa are covered in protective plastic to protect the furniture, have you? Wouldn't that be both uncomfortable as well as noisy?
Where do you weigh in on couch covers?

@looeyville I would definitely use them if my guests were given to taking off their clothes when they arrived anywhere and proceeded to set their bare bottoms on my couch. However I don’t often have that kind of guest round.

Never had this on any couch, What I could not stand was sitting on other people's couches if they had plastic coverings,

I come from an Italian family and have seen the plastic on the furniture. I keep my couch covered because it's ancient. My cover is exactly the type that you show. Hubby always wanted to get a couch with two recliners so we could sit next to each other; but we never did. Sigh.

Generally I would say no. But it depends on what kind of covers we're talking about. If they are cloth, fine and dandy. If they are plastic, hell no. We have covers on our furniture because the cats destroyed it and I wanted to extend the life. They look good with the covers, and it's cheaper than spending thousands on new furniture for as long as we can get away with it.

Well I would disregard Bing totally.
Some people use covers on a sofa because of pets.
Some because of work clothing.
Some because the furniture is worn out.
Some because they find it decorative.
Our suite is very expensive and Yvonne made covers for it to keep it like new
I sometimes bring customers in for a coffee and I am usually in working clothing.
Our covers make no noise, and you do not even notice that they are there.
Hand made by a seamstress, and people who have seen them have commissioned Yvonne to make covers for them also
Now, arm rests
I bought a set of arm rests and head rest covers just like the ones in your photo
Haven't used them yet
