Some song's messages are short and sweet. It's a great way for an Artist to express their feelings in a concise way. And it seems there are quite a few bands and singers who release lots of one-word titled songs. Way more than I thought, maybe because these tunes contain a catchy chorus and verse, which grab a listener’s attention. Whatever the reasons these songs grabbed mine... THE FINAL COUUNTDOWN WITH COMMENTS: **How many of these songs below do you know? Which of my choices would you include in your playlist? Do you have any suggestions for one-word titled songs that you enjoy? 10. CHERISH- The Association had a #1 hit in 1966 with this tune. Seems the band is pretty good with one-word title songs as their song "Windy," was also a huge hit, making it to the top of the charts too. 9. SPOOKY- The Classics IV recorded this #3 song in 1968. They also had another called "Stormy." The group had even better luck the next year with another one-word song you might remember called "Traces" (#2). Pretty impressive! Fun Fact: In 1970 three band members went on to form the band "The Atlanta Rhythm Section. 8. MAINSTREET- This 1976 tune off Bob Seger's "Night Moves" album introduced this artist to a wider national audience. The LP sold over 5 million copies cementing Seger's stardom. 7.KODACHROME- Seems Paul Simon didn't need Artie around to pursue a successful solo career. Such an upbeat song, with a great message, reaching #2 in 1973. Relating experiences to nice bright colors and referencing Kodachrome, a Kodak trademark makes for a unique tune. 6. GLORIA (1964)- Van Morrison wrote this song when he was the lead singer with a Belfast, Ireland band called "Them." I like his song "Brown Eyed Girl even better, but this tune gives "Van-Fans" a taste of what was to come later. Fun fact: Jimmy Page (Led Zep fame) played lead guitar on this tune. 5. SHERRY- The Four Seasons owned the record charts until a certain group from England called The Beatles put a dent to their dominance in 1965. But Frankie and those "Jersey Boys" did alright with 10 Top Ten's and 5 reaching #1. 4. RUNAWAY- This was Del Shannon's biggest hit (1961) reaching the top spot on the charts. His career stalled a few years later, and in 1990 he killed himself. Tom Petty pays tribute to this artist in his song "Runnin Down a Dream." "It was a beautiful day, me and Del were singing, a little runaway." 3. DESPERADO (1973)- The Eagles have the "Best Selling Album of All-Time" (Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975). So we can forgive them for mixing things up with a "Cowboy themed LP" follow up to their debut album. Afterall, it produced this gem of a song. 2. LOLA (1970)- This Kinks tune would fit in nicely with what is happening with the Trans Movement today. This song is about a guy who meets a girl (Lola) in a club who takes him home and rocks his world. Except we find out later that Lola is a man! TRIVIA CHALLENGE- NAME THAT TUNE! ***For those who like to test their music knowledge. Here is my "favorite choice" for One-word titled songs. Words with quote marks provide hints! #1. This artist's "guitar playing" was described as "God-like" in the 60's. That recognition definitely helps when your part of a "Supergroup" named "Cream." The singer literally spills his heart out in the lyrics to this song, the object of his affection being "the wife of George Harrison." The initial release of the short version of this track flopped, but when the full 7 minute song came out it became one of the "most famous tunes in rock history." -Can you name this One-Word song? Bonus if you know the artist! Till the next one... Source- Wikipedia and songfacts.com Photo-Amazon-Four Seasons https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMcWldfg28s

I know most of those songs and several are favorites such as Spooky, Cherish, Lola and Runaway. I'm at a loss on the trivia question.

@dgobucks226 I love all the groups that you mentioned. There isn't much from the 60s and 70s that I don't like. Unfortunately band members from all the groups are quickly passing away. It's so sad.

The Association and Classics IV had some great hits! Saw The Association many years ago at an Oldies Reunion concert. The Kinks were part of that British Invasion and had some terrific tunes like "All Day And All Of The Night" and "You Really Got Me," two of my favs. Trivia answer: Layla- Eric Clapton Enjoy...

Layla! You got me on my knees. Layla! Help me get up please ‘cause I’m old. That would have been by Derek and the Dominoes. Yeah, “Clapton” is technically correct, but what would Alex Trebek say??
