I'm Getting Reimbursed for My Damaged Luggage

United States

I remembered that I had trip insurance that covers baggage delays and damage, so I filed a claim for the big red piece of luggage that had it's retractable handle severed. I provided them the original receipt of $149.95 from 2016 and they paid me something like $143.61. I know, it's a weird amount, but heck I'm just happy to get paid. Do you file claims or just let things go when something happens?

I'm glad you remembered the insurance. I file a claim when necessary; but I can't remember the last time I did.

I’d say if it’s worth the time and effort, it’s always smart to file. No sense letting things slide if you’re entitled to compensation.

They destroyed it and they should pay for it. How airlines manage to tear up suitcases and lose them so often I will never understand. I used to live in southern Illinois and it was over two hours away to fly out of either St.Louis or Indianapolis. They sent drivers to our area every day to deliver lost suitcases. So ridiculous.

If it is an expensive item I try to recoup my money. If it’s small, I tend to let it go.

@looeyville It’s such a hassle. Once though I complained to Aer Lingus about the awful boarding system they had in Athens 6 years ago - I was most cross - and I was refunded the cost of the flight! Their system really was bad. First passengers with children or disabilities were asked to board, that was us. Our daughter takes a bit of time doing things. We were escorted to a bus that was to take us to the plane, then all the other passengers were let on the same bus so we were hemmed into a corner and when the bus got to the plane it was everyone else who got on board first even though we had paid extra to get on first. Same happened in Rennes recently which reminds me that I haven’t yet complained about that. Glad you got your compensation.
