The Zen master, Artrep Plerposki, was telling his students about the true role of a Zen master to his students. He said: "A Zen master nurtures the soul of their student, as a quick accented inspiration, brought about by overenthusiasm, never lasts." "The mind can be elevated like this to a higher consciousness, but that really takes one nowhere of itself, as we need the alive awareness of our soul to be elevated, not a dead consciousness, which is more machinelike, than living." "We learn more from a divine silencing of our mind by our soul, so that our soul can connect to the otherwise concealed voice of God. This is what Zen meditation allows us to achieve." "Our mind, of itself, takes us nowhere, except for running around in itself, and only our soul can run to God, and so live a real life for us, rather than one, just running around in its own circles, so we walk the direct path to heaven then, rather than running around endlessly in a constructed circle of nothingness." "Our soul, working with God, makes us a heart to live love by, and from, and a mind to utilise as a servant." "Now the Buddha was quoted as saying:" "'The mind is everything. What you think you become."' "But, if he did say this, he was dead wrong here." "It is love that fashions us into becoming anything, not our mind. Our soul is everything, not out mind." "So, we nurture your soul, not your mind, remember that well." "Employing your own understanding alone, via your intellect, and your conscious, and subconscious minds, creates a wrong agenda for you to follow. You need to follow the direction of your soul, as it fulfils its vocation, and mission, for God." "We try to help you to be your soul, then, not just your mind, on its own." And with that, the Zen master concluded his talk for that day. Your mind is something that you should not waste.

Yes we should make full use of our mind, but not treat it us the be all, and end all, of us, as we have a soul, too, which to my mind is the greater us. We are a soul with a mind, not a mind with a soul.
