Areca nut harvesting

We have a few areca nut trees. We only pick nuts that fall down. but there are a few owners with large groves they have a nice method of collecting arena nuts
They climb one tree and jump from one tree to another It is interesting to watch them do oit.

They are not eaten as would a mango Only a few eat them with betel leaf. They are a commercial crop and has many other uses.

@LadyDuck Chewing it has a mild narcotic effect. Mostly the labour class is seen eating it with paan. Have you not heard of these people spitting out the red stuff which is a combination of paan, areca nut and some chuna

@allknowing - I see, I have never seen those nuts for sale here in Europe.

My parents have already harvested 4 months ago... but I think few trees might be left to harvest again

@allknowing... They usually have 10-15 arecanuts to be harvested at this season. The arecanuts were kept for ripening in the tree and after harvesting they were buried in the soil ... (I think it's kind of fermentation) later after 2-3 months they were again dugged out and sold for consumptions
