I'm excited!

Several times I’ve been on here lamenting the lack of insects the last few years. I’ve been out in the garden or walking in the countryside and everything has been unnaturally still and quiet. Other people have noticed this as well, it’s even been reported in the national media.
Well today seems to be a good day. I don’t know if it means a change for the better or if it’s just a one-off; maybe it’s just the right combination of flowers blooming and warm sunshine, but either way I am revelling in the sudden burgeoning of insect life in the garden. The lavender plants lining our garden path are in full bloom while oregano, which spreads everywhere, is just coming in to flower, and both are very popular. As I walk around the garden today there is a busy humming all around and dozens of bees and butterflies flitting to and fro. I even saw a couple of butterflies flying low over the grass and then stopping to lay eggs!
I’m so happy! This is the way things should be. Long may it last.
You can’t really see in this fuzzy photo, but there are three white-tailed bumblebees plus two different butterflies (a gatekeeper and a comma) in this one patch of lavender.

I can see two orange butterflies.
We used to see bees and butterflies at our last house a few blocks from where we live now... We rarely see any bees or butterflies around here even when things are in bloom. This is the first year I've seen robins in the front yard here but we always see crows or starlings in the back yard under the trees back there.

@Fleura I can see two orange-ish blobs on the left side of the photo but can't tell what they are.
True... Pretty always pollinated the bell peppers we grew as well as the tomatoes... At the other house, bees took care of that for me.

If you want you could have some of ours. I love our butterflies but I'm getting tired of the wasps lol

We're OK for wasps thanks - at least the common sort (there are 9,000 species of wasps in the UK!) They love our pergola and spend a lot of time scraping away the surface of the wood to make their paper nests. I wonder how many years it will be before they've eaten it away completely?

@Fleura Ours like our ramp and behind the window shutters. I don't even know why we have shutters.
