Sooty, the Black Rabbit
Sooty was our Black Rabbit
Sooty is no more
Sooty died
So when we got him and wanted a name for him my son who was 6 suggested Blackie
I thought about it, a bit of a red flag if black people thought Blackie was racist
Then son comes up with Dar key
That's the spelling he suggested
Really bright boy he was at 6
But again, a bit worried it might offend
Then he said Sooty
Thought about it, seems safe enough, surely no chimney sweep would get upset.
Well wrong
I honestly didn't know Sooty could be seen as a racial slur as all chimney sweeps I had met were as pink as me
But the rabbit answered to sooty
And so did the chimney sweep
He called me a racist C u next Tuesday
Sooty is not racist for a black bunny rabbit
Is it

I think it was a good name. We had a horse named Black. A white woman told me that was bad and a black woman asked her why as the horse was black

Aye
For any black animal
Say I had a black sheep, a black goat, a black cat and a black dog
I would call them all Sooty
Then I shout Sooty and they all come running to me
Yay for Sooty

Lol
I think Black is a good name for a black horse
Why do we white people get so up our backsides about this stuff
Look at me worrying about calling a black rabbit sooty

@ineeddentures Brown or black dogs were often called some name starting with N here when I was growing up. My politically correct kids were aghast when I told them that.

That's the problem to play safe for not mistakenly tagged as racist. Sooty didn't imply racism.

Well if people get offended by totally innocent stuff they have the problem, not me
And I will not jump through hoops to appease these people who just want to be offended so they can complain

One thing is for sure.
A white rabbit called Sooty would have been quite rare

It's just a cute name. Not a racial slur. Sorry about the loss of your rabbit.
