How Much Vitamin D Do You Need?

Most of us end up taking a Vitamin D supplement as we get older. When it's not this blazing hot outside, hubby and I like to sit outside and soak up some sun for our mental and physical health. Doctors say that the benefits of vitamin D include stronger bones, a hardier immune system and better overall health. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) say we need this much daily Vitamin D: Infants under 1 year: 10 micrograms (mcg) (400 IU) Adults and children ages 1 to 70, 15 mcg (600 IU) Adults over age 70: 20 mcg (800 IU) Apparently about 35% of adults have a vitamin D deficiency. It's good your your bones and has something to do with Calcium as well, but I'm not a scientist. Do you think you get enough Vitamin D?

I have a deficiency and take D3 gel tabs. Yes D3 helps Calcium be absorbed into the body.

Supplements definitely help, and a little sunshine (when it's not scorching!) makes a big difference too. Sounds like you and your hubby have a good balance. I try to stay mindful of it.

I had a low vitamin d and took supplements very erratically, but have now normalised my levels.

I definitely don’t get enough from being outside! My medicine says to avoid a lot of exposure to sunlight.

I never checked, maybe I have enough vitamin D even though I only eat fruit.

I think I get plenty considering we do enough camping, yard work, and time spent in the pool. I still take a supplement though. But it's probably needed more in the winter.
