Someone asked me this yesterday and I was a bit stuck for an answer. I guess when you are young you dream about being a pop star or racing driver, dancer, footballer, fireman etc…. But, these are just dreams, for most of us anyway, and we know that. Right up to when I left school I was never really sure what I wanted to do ….16 is still young to say what you want to do for the rest of your life ! So what did I do ? I went to college and did a hotel receptionist course. I left and did childcare then Nursery Nursing ….N.N.E.B. I worked in a nursery for a year then worked in the same school for 26 years, firstly supporting hearing impaired children ….i learnt sign language etc, then I did mainstream. In 2014 I started at my present school, firstly in the nursery then implementing a language scheme through the whole Primary school to those who needed it. I haven’t done too badly What was your dream job as a child ?

Well there were 3 things I remember wanting to do as a kid one was be an airline stewardess, the other a foreign correspondent, and the 3rd was the Peace Corps. So, I suppose one of those. Now, I love to travel..but it is a hobby.

You’re absolutely right.. asking a teenager to pick a lifelong career is asking someone to choose a road before they've even seen the map. As for me, i want to become a writer or storyteller, because words have a way of lighting up the world when used just right.
