What's for din? July 7th, 2025

Over the weekend, the child asked me to make homemade orange chicken. Life got busy, and then yesterday I completely forgot to thaw the chicken—so tonight was finally the night! I took a page out of @porwest’s book and cheated a little with the fried rice. If you saw my earlier post, you know we were in town most of the day, so I figured making orange chicken from scratch was enough of a culinary achievement. I grabbed a bag of Great Value chicken fried rice and—surprise!—it was a hit. It smelled amazing too! I tweaked the orange chicken recipe a bit, and honestly? I think I might have perfected it this time. So that was dinner at our house tonight. What made it to your table?

That plate looks delicious. Great Value products are underrated sometimes. I slow baked a 5 pound pork tenderloin for five hours. I used a homemade rub. I also made cold tuna salad and cranberries. Bread and butter too, of course. I made strawberty shortcake for dessert but I'm still too full to have some. Soon.

I love great value products. A lot of them are made in the same place as name brand. I am doing pork tenderloin tomorrow. Ewwww cranberries in tuna, no thanks.

@Vikingswest1 Nope. Still doesn't sound good. But the only time I like cranberries is juice or Craisins.

Glad it all worked out. You've got me craving orange chicken now. lol For dinner last night it was pan-fried fish with macaroni and cheese and buttered kernel corn on the side.

@thislittlepennyearns Kernel corn is off the cob and cobbed corn is on the cob. lol If someone says kernel corn it implies they ate it off the cob and if they say they had corn on the cob, well, that's different than kernel corn. I like to clarify.

@thislittlepennyearns I did have this small block of Parmesan cheese. They’re really the perfect little size.

That looks like a delicious dinner. What do you usually pair with your orange chicken besides fried rice?
