Have you suffered gout? This is a form of inflammatory arthritis, It swelled the big toe joint and it's painful to walk.
I had experienced it lately. My right foot wss swollen particularly the joint in my big toe. It pained me when I walk. After three days, I went to government health doctor. After my diagnosis, I was advised to have a lab test. I went to a goverment provincial hospital and my lab test was out after 6 hours.
I was saddened of the results: high in uric acid and keatinine. My doctor prescribed me with anti-gout med and for my kidney.
After taking meds for one day, pain was gone and swollen joint getting back to normal.
I realized that this malady brought by eating too much stringed beans and drinking soda drink and as a senior citizen as I'm proned to this kind of disease.

I JUST read that. It was mentioned in the same article at some arthritis page that verified cherries to prevent gout and lower uric acid. My Dad had gout bad and he got better after eating them. I have been eating cherries for arthritis but will need to find a medication for it.

I'll have to look that up. I don't get in to see the doctor until the 15th.

Eat fresh cherries. They help prevent outbreaks.

Allopurinol is the medication the doctors will give you to get rid of the purines in your feet and take pain relievers when you ache.
Drinking lots of water also helps wash the purines out of your joints.

@Nakitakona If I remember correctly (this was years ago) that doctor told me there was not much that could be done for it. So really I did nothing but try to live with it and took Aleve when the pain was very bad.

I have suffered from gout most of my adult life
Recently it has not been too bad.
2 ibuprofen tablets and 2 paracetamol tablets are keeping it at bay
Sorry you are suffering
It's not nice

Yes, I have gout attacks but never my toes... It happens in the ball of my foot or the middle of my foot. (I broke a bone in the middle of my right foot as a child and that area will swell and ache when I walk. I found out I could put one of the small hand weights on the floor and roll it under my foot and while that will hurt, it is breaking up the purine crystals that cause the aches. Then the crystals will be "washed" out by the fluids in the foot and the ache will go away faster.)
