Peppie is alive and kicking but who keeps him alive I really do not know - it;s not me any way

Since the last few days he comes here and sleeps away, meows a little, nibbles just a bit, does not even have curds. After a couple of hours or so he leaves the place only to return the next monning Ever sincfe I stopped giving him fresh fish he has been behaving like this The consolation however is that someone feeds him and he looks healthy

That's classic cat behavior—fiercely independent and never quite "owned" by anyone. They don't rely on their humans the way dogs do. If food runs out or a better menu pops up elsewhere, they'll find it or simply switch benefactors without a second thought. But no matter where they wander, they always return to the place that feels like home—the spot where they’re safe, familiar, and accepted. Peppie may have adjusted his routine (especially now without the fresh fish incentive!), but the fact that he still comes back to you says a lot. You’re still his home base, even if someone else is footing the food bill for now.

You have beautifully explained the cat story and it is so true every bit of what you have said. I am grateful that he atleast comes home and spends a few hours here.

@allknowing I grew up with cats too in my younger years. They roam around find their food and stay where they feel safe and comfortable. Most of our cats are stray cats that stayed in our house.
