It's Arthritis

That was the official diagnosis by the orthopedist who x-rayed and examined my hip today. He showed me the x-rays, of which I could not make heads nor tails, and he said something about "disc space" which I assume meant narrowing. But basically until it's painful (right now it's just irritating) I'm supposed to just do some exercises to build up the muscles around my hips. He said if it gets painful he can do a pain injection, but he doesn't like to do NSAIDS like Celebrex, etc. He says it'll be a long time before anything like surgery would need to be done to my hip. I appreciated finding out for certain what was going on in there.

I'm glad you don't have to have a hip replacement. If it ever gets to that point, just know that it's much easier and less painful than a knee replacement.

Hope that it doesn't come to surgery. At least you know what's up now And that's a plus

Celebrex didn’t do anything for my arthritis, and the more I hear about its long term effects, I’m glad. It makes me think highly of your doctor (like it matters) that he didn’t jump to that. Hopefully, the exercises will really help you.

@looeyville I do hope surgery can be avoided.

It is a good thing that it is still in the early stages and you can do whatever it takes to slow its progression or stop it completely. You might consider suitable exercises and an anti arthritis diet.

That must be a bit of a relief.. not exactly great news, but at least now you know what’s going on

Yeah, that’s the thing that Mick sang about when he said, “What a drag it is getting old.” And Mick was twenty-two when he wrote that line!

Arthritis is really painful so I hope he's right that it will be a long time before you need surgery or any kind of pain injection.
