We Think Hubby Has Gout

Hubby woke up with a red, swollen, painful, angry-looking big toe on his left foot. He's had gout in the past so he pretty much recognizes this as being gout although he fears that his diabetes might be causing it and he'll lose a toe. But for right now we're self-diagnosing with gout and we're going to keep an eye on it through the weekend and if it gets worse, we'll take him to see the doctor even though he swears he will not go to the doctor. I've heard gout is very painful. Have you ever had it?

I have not. Diabetes and gout together can be very serious, but I am sure you know that. Not trying to panic you, last winter a friend’s husband lost a big toe to this and he has trouble with balance now. Very painful, I hope you can basically hog tie him and haul him to urgent care to get some meds!

Yes that's what I plan to do if he gets stubborn about it. Thank you.

@LooeyVille I know the pain can be very hard from what I have heard. Elevate and ice helps a lot.

No, but my brother in law gets it. He has pills he can take to control a flare up. Buy hubby some tart cherry juice, until you can get into the doc.

I have never had it but my son has but that was when we were homeless and eating out of cans a lot! That will do it.. His ankles swelled like crazy and the hospital said it was gout. I guess it was the sodium in the canned meat and fish.

I have suffered from gout since I was a fot young man when I was in the Army It comes and goes. It is painfully sore He could try Ibuprofen and Paracetamol This will take the swelling down a bit and east the pain He should also elevate the sore foot so it's above his head. Postural drainage. It's so sore that even a duvet rubbing on the sore bit can be agony Get his shoes off Leg up Paracetamol and Ibuprofen Drink lots of water If he is still bad on Monday, doctor, and please make sure he goes Especially if he is diabetic

Fresh cherries is a great all natural food that will help with inflammation and pain. Epson salt soak should also help. I have had gout years ago in the middle joint of my middle finger. It is very painful. Since your hubby has diabetes, please check with his doctor on Monday to be safe.

My uncle had gout, and I remember him saying how painful it was. I hope your husband won’t put off going if it gets more serious.

My dad had it. I understand it’s quite painful as well. Tell him to get his butt to a doctor, that’s what he’s paying medical insurance premiums for!!!!!
