I watched Windtalkers again and thought I would write a little something if you haven’t seen it. Windtalkers releases in June of 2002, it stars Nicholas Cage, Adam Beach, Christian Slater and Mark Ruffalo. The film is about the Navajo code talkers in World War II. The film runs 2 hours and 14 minutes. It follows two Marines who are assigned to protect the code. They are assigned a Code Talker and they must protect the code at all costs. The film is based on the Navajo and their “protectors” but not on any real-life people. The story is just interesting enough, Nicholas Cage is over the top as he always is, the acting, overall, is not that impressive. The combat scenes are way over done. Hand grenades exploding into a huge fireball is a Hollywood thing, in real life they don’t do that. At one point we see a pillbox explode into pieces leaving a big hole in the ground from a grenade. Some of the typical one liners from a war movie are used way too much for me. It really could have been a much better movie, and I wish it had been. I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars and I think I am being generous to give it that much.
