Tesla's first showroom in India opens in India's Financial capital, Mumbai on 15th of July 2025. This move signifies Tesla's intensified efforts to establish a presence in India, following discussions between Elon Musk and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While the company plans to directly sell imported vehicles, it currently has no manufacturing operations in India, despite the government's incentives for local production. Tesla is also recruiting for various roles in Mumbai and New Delhi as it prepares to face competition from established players like BYD and Tata Motors. Does India have the necessary infrastructure in place to supports EV's? The US does not. The rush to eliminate fossil fuel powered autos in the US was a political stunt that was never possible. It would take twenty years and the creation of thousands of new nuclear power plants and an entire grid upgrade to accomplish all EV transportation. The mandate in the US was reversed. Before Elon Musk supported Trump, everyone loved his cars. They were the top of the line EV in the US. Perfect vehicle for those that had available and reliable charging options. Will you go look that them?

Aren't Elon Musk's cars not loved now? The breakup between the two hasn't changed anything physically or feature-wise in his cars, isn't it?

@abhi_bangal The only thing that has changed about Musk's vehicles is the public opinion of Musk. His vehicles are still the top tier EV on the planet. The campaign to bash him, destroy his vehicles, attack the drivers of his vehicles, firebomb Tesla dealerships and post negative reviews is directly related to his connection with Trump and DOGE. The left in the US are deranged at times.

@abhi_bangal It's for real. People, some government employees, are caught on video, intentionally keying or otherwise damaging parked Teslas. Many Tesla owners are confronted by raging leftists while driving their cars. Mobs have protested Tesla dealerships and have thrown objects at vehicles. Dealerships and individual owners have had their vehicle(s) firebombed. I can provide links to the events but if you do a search for vandalism and attacks on Tesla dealers and owners, you'll find the stories in the return. America is pretty divided now and one side seems to be filled with hate and violence.

I hope Indians do not buy Tesla. If they can't make them in India and create jobs for Indians they should be subject to huge tarrifs to help Tata and BYD

@Ineeddentures These cars are imported so under a high Import duty that makes up their price almost to their US levels. Yet may be Elon Musk could start Tesla manufacturing in India, especially after US and India Trade deal is done.

@Ineeddentures, As a matter of fact, a majority of the Indian people aren't going to afford cars from a brand like Tesla. Moreover, they aren't yet manufacturing the cars in India. This will aaf to the cost when more.

@snowy22315 So you would not buy a Tesla because of ideological differences or is it because you are also not sure about how good or safe a Tesla car can be? Just a query from my side.

@snowy22315 Yes, these would be expensive for most people in India as well. Even not many among the rich would buy these.

@luisadannointed They have expensive cars and many in US are autonomous cars. However, I wonder that the Indian cars won't be that autonomous and would likely have more driver manual controls.

@JudyEv Initially these would do good because of hype. Ultra rich would buy more as a "Status Symbol". It would be more clear after 2 to 3 years as to how well these cars do vs competing luxury cars in India.

I am not so familiar with these cars, but I would be wary driving one. I hope things will benefit India.

@Jenaisle I do not think that the cars coming in India are the driverless or fully automated ones, but I need to check. Indian roads are too full for American style transport systems.
