I have had two tubs of rhubarb that until this year have been fantastic. They have produced so much fruit both Mom and I have used it in pies and crumbles, we have frozen it so that we have some for the winter months and I have given some away to friends and neighbours. This year however, my rhubarb has given up….only a couple of limp, wilting stalks. I thought , just keep looking after it and it may come back to life ….no such luck I’m afraid. I looked at the pots this morning and said to The Mister that next time we go to the garden centre I must replace the rhubarb.

We had rhubarb on the farm but haven't had it since my teenage years. (That's when mom sold the farm.) Mom cooked it in pies and I liked it well enough. I hope you can get more of it.

I hope so too. I didn’t know you had lived on a farm.

@Traceyjayne Yes, I'm a farm boy... I spent my first 18 years milking cows and growing our own veggies... My brothers and I hunted and fished for meat for our table. Surprise! We raised pigs, cows, horses and mules on our farm. We had chickens, geese and rabbits we raised for meat, too.

I have red and green rhubarb beds here. They are 25 years old. You may think I'm a freak, but when I eat it raw, I use salt instead of sugar. I also have a large bed of strawberries and although I haven't made pies in a couple of years, I love to make strawberry rhubarb pies. I have made rhubarb crumble, crisp and breads. I get so much every year, I have to give it away or it'll go to waste. I put it in bags by the street with a "free" sign and they disappear quickly. I get rid of many things that way. Take my first wife... Please.

Never heard of salt before …but each to their own. We had the green but I think I would go for pink next time. Can’t comment on the corny joke ….as I’ve not met the wife.

@traceyjayne Can there be anything more satisfying than a good rhubarb crumble with luscious custard? The answer is no. And when I can eat no more you can just pour the rest of it over me and rub it in.
