You never thought you'd heard me say that, did you? That buying something would make you happier? Me, the minimalist, who doesn't like "stuff."
Okay, you caught me, it's a trick title. Sort of. I'm a Dave Ramsey follower and he's a financial guru and he says the following "purchases" will make you happier:
1. A Paid-Off Home Mortgage
There's a lot of peace that comes from having no mortgage debt.
2. Long-Term Investments
They will provide you financial freedom later in life.
3. Quality Used Cars You Can Pay for in Cash
Don't buy brand new cars that lose their value immediately and don't finance
4. Meaningful Experiences That Make You Happy
This would be like my traveling.
He makes sense not to buy expensive "toys" like boats and jet skis and motorcycles and stuff and to only buy things when you have the cash to pay for it.
Are you familiar with Dave Ramsey? Do you agree with his assessment?

Oh I love my happy light. I have . . . what do they call that thing where you get the Winter blues when it's dark so early in the day? I can't think of the name. The Happy Light helps.

@LooeyVille Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)? I wish my grandmother had had one when she was alive. SAD is not something to be dismissed.

@looeyville Never heard of him. I agree with his prudent view regarding mortgage and saving up to buy rather than getting car finance etc. But I’m a bit conflicted because it could lead to us seeing ourselves as self-made and that we’re in control of our own destinies. You got me dithering a bit now! I’ll sort it all out tomorrow!!

That is what I always do even when I have gift cards at Amazon use my debit card and only get what I can afford and really need occasionally something for myself like food, or a book, or a DVD

I haven't heard of him but these tips certainly make sense.

David Ramsey is a fool if he thinks a motorcycle is an expensive toy.
I don't agree with that part of his assesment
And if he is so dumb about that, I wouldn't take him seriously at all
