You Stop Caring About Some Things After A Certain Age

Now at 60 I don't worry or care about some of the things that made me anxious when I was younger. It's funny how that works, isn't it? CHASING PERFECTION I'm not perfect, life's not perfect, it's not going to happen. I can quit trying to be perfect and accept my mistakes. ALWAYS BEING BUSY I thought "busy-ness" was a sign of not being lazy. I thought it added value to your being. When I had to medically retire due to dementia and depression I was devasted. Work had defined me my whole life. I had never planned on retiring ever. But I've settled into a nice quiet routine and accepted that I'm a human being not a human-doing. IMPRESSING EVERYONE/WORRYING WHAT OTHERS THINK OF ME I just really don't care anymore. They're going to think what they're going to think anyway. And I know who I am - I don't need to flaunt my achievements. They don't define me anyway. FEELING GUILTY FOR SAYING NO I have no trouble telling people no now. I used to do things I didn't want to do for fear of letting someone down or disappointing someone. Now I do what I want when I want how I want. These are just a few of them. Are there things you have quit caring about at your age now that you used to care about before?

I understand what you are saying...I think with age comes wisdom and have a different way of looking at things.

I'm already 73 years old. Why should I worry those things. Nada. My wife and I just keep ourselves happy, buy things we want, play with our grandkids, pray, among others.

I still am a bit of a perfectionist. That's ingrained from my parents. Busy? Not since all that work around the house has been completed. I am overweight; and that still bothers me. I used to be so thin! The only one I can't say no to is cousin #2. She will go ballistic.

This really hits home. Amazing how age puts things into perspective. I'm slowly learning to let go of the same things too — especially the need to please everyone.

Gosh. Yep. True on ALL counts here. I think part of it is that as we become older, we see the world not for what we were led to believe it is, but for how it really is. We also understand better the importance and non-importance of certain things. In other words, we become wiser.
