Update On the Mama Drama

Well, we got a call from the millionaire friend yesterday that he got the mother-in-law an apartment at the Masonic Home for just $700/month and he has access to all amenities of the campus. PLUS - when she's ready to transition to memory care or skilled nursing care, etc. she can live there FREE OF CHARGE the rest of her life. It's a long complicated story but her husband (my father in law) was a Mason and they can grant Widow's Benefits to her if the Board of Directors approves it. Well, turns out millionaire friend sits on the Board of Directors so it got approved. Now the reason she's paying $700/month now is because in order to get the Widows Benefits you have to give up all your assets to the Masonic Home. Granted, she only has a car and maybe $5,000 but she's not ready to do that yet. But when she's ready, it's available for her. Now here's the kicker. The mother-in-law hasn't called and told us any of this. And another kicker . . . it's a move date of August 1st. That's just two weeks away. She's going to need help packing, cancelling utilities, etc., etc. She's a stubborn one, she is. After all we did for her to help make this happen and she doesn't even tell us about it.

From what you've told us, I wouldn't expect anything different from her. Just keep your fingers crossed that she makes the move. It sounds like a good choice for her.

Remember patience is a virtue. Sounds like a great deal now the focus is on getting her moved.

That sounds like an ideal solution for your MIL but I really hope she decides to do the move. Otherwise you'll be back to square one.

Why she's secretive? She's trying to avoid trouble or conflict.

That’s great that she’ll get that kind of care, and it won’t fall on you. Of course, it’s pathetic she didn’t tell you herself. I’ve always heard interesting things about the Masons.
