I don't know what made me think of this fantasy romance movie but last night I did and found it on Tubi. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. For those of you who haven't seen this movie it is the story of a playwright, Richard Collier(Christopher Reeves) who falls in love with the photo of a beautiful actress from the turn of 20th Century, Elise McKenna( Jane Seymour). He has gone to stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan for a rest and sees the picture in the history room there.
I found some interesting information about it too. Here it is:
In the book Richard Collier is diagnosed with a brain tumor and the time travel experience is actually an hallucination caused by the tumor. But, in the movie he dies of a broken heart.
Christopher Reeve said that he wanted to do the film to break free from his Superman role. Jane admitted in her audition that she had never been in love and they chose her because this would give an added innocence to her performance.
In the book the story takes place at the De Coronado Hotel in California. In the movie it is filmed at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan. After the movie came out and was such a success the Grand Hotel started doing a "Somewhere in Time Weekend". They would have a screening of the movie, a tour of where scenes were filmed, a vintage dress promenade in the parlor as well as many other events. It started in October of 1980 and still goes on to this day. Jane Seymour is said to make a visit when she can and may be there this year. Christopher passed away in October 2004 due to an infected pressure injury which caused a cardiac arrest. He had been in a horse riding accident in 1985 and was paralyzed. He and Jane made many appearances at the event up until the time of his passing.
Going to Grand Hotel has been on my bucket list for many years now. I dream of going to the special weekend or even to the Lilac festival they have. It is such a romantic place. No cars are allowed and your only mode of transportation is walking, bicycling or by horse drawn carriage. Its decor is all vintage and it sounds so divine. I'd love to see it someday.

I don't think I've ever seen the movie. I hope you make it to the Grand Hotel some day.

I don’t remember this film at all. Very sad end to the life of Christopher Reeve.
