Are hotel beds really clean?

I am not so comfortable sleeping in hotel beds. While most reputable hotels adhere to strict hygiene protocols, there's no guarantee that hotel beds are perfectly spotless. Hotels generally change and wash sheets between guests, but the frequency of cleaning comforters and other bedding items can vary. 'A study found that some hotels only change the sheets every other guest or after a certain amount of time (especially in less expensive or lower-star hotels). Higher-end hotels tend to have a more rigorous cleaning routine.' I usually request a new sheet for my bed, but still, the comforter may have been used several times. Yucky! Here's an article from the New York Post about dirty hotel beds.

NO, even luxury hotels are known to "recycle" bed sheets, there are plenty of videos on YouTube taken by hidden cameras. Anyway I have traveled a lot and never had skin problems, I always wore a pajama when I did not sleep in my bed.

Right, that's one way to prevent infectious skin agents.

I have travelled a lot and have used hotel beds. My health is not affected and that is the proof that they are fine. The bed that you see was in Washington

@allknowing I'm uncomfortable in hotels - even - 5-star hotels. I was lucky I had friends and relatives wherever I traveled abroad.

As much as possible, I will trust that the hotel cleaners will do their parts in cleaning the mattress.

I worked in hotels for a decade. I became a manager in the Banquet department but worked in housekeeping and maintenance too. Crazy stuff goes on in hotels. Even 5 star sites. The rooms had normal cleaning and linen and bedding replacement. Comforters weren't normally cleaned more than once a week unless it was obviously soiled or stained. Walls were cleaned monthly and carpets every six months. Spot cleaning was on an as needed basis. Phones, remotes, light switches, drawer handles, hangers, unit ventilators and menus were generally skipped unless something obvious was visible. Even the room cards or keys, went without sanitizing. Mattresses were flipped once a month and pillows were rarely laundered. Yucky indeed.

I thought so too, even 5-star hotels. I guess @allknowing has to know because it's straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. I'd rather sleep in a friend's or relative's modest house than in a hotel- 5-star or not - not sure whether the previous beddings were changed. I've seen videos of 5-star hotels being caught dirty - yucky! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdbRx-Oz9mg

@Jenaisle Yucky is right. I'd just as soon camping over a hotel or motel. Dirt and bugs are expected there, lol.

I think blankets are not easy to wash if the guest changes everyday. Some are quite thick and even unwieldly. At the end of the day, we have to trust and not think too much or we will lose sleep!

True lower budget hotels are not tend to maintain their hygiene over cleaning and changing sheets or comforters but yes the high end hotels they clean and replace all and maintain their class.

So far, so good for me; my recent travels have been safe and clean as far as I know. I didn't find it unclean when we first arrived. I believe the feeling that makes you squirm is knowing that someone has used it and you have no idea what happened or what the previous guest did there before you arrived. However, I assumed that the hotel would do their best to clean it, especially if it was fully booked; cleaning and cleaning quality may be compromised.

It depends on the class of the hotel. in 5-star hotels, the beds maybe clean to ensure high BOR. There are leaflets given to hotel guests so that they can give their evaluations on the hotel reputation. What's your take?
