Unexpected renovation

Philippines
July 26, 2025 12:49am CST
It was during the storm. The day after we change the tarpaulin, I put the old torn one in the corner. My plan would put the old tarpaulin to the laundry area once the storm passes. That morning Mom's driver volunteered to put it while the rain was pouring. He didn't realized the wood gets soften during rain and the roof collapsed. Yeah, He had no choice but to renovate the entire roof. What he put back was the old tarpaulins not the iron roofs. I wanted back up there but it seems they wanted sell it to the junkshop. Sadly, my extension outlet and line hangers had also been removed. The new design was better it needs more tarp. Right now it's sunny over here. Have a nice day

But I think the tarp is not as sturdy as the metal roofs..

That tarp was supposed to be thrown away @brokenbee but they decided to put it anyways.

I hope the flood did not come to your house. Stay safe. I think that there's another rain will come maybe in the future.

Hello @cabuyogty No because we are in a higher area. but floods happened in some areas because of clogged drains. they fixed it now some how.

@Letranknight2015 We had clogged drains also at the back of our house that's why the flood came. My mother and my brother fixed our drainage also. Good for us that the rain is not too heavy yesterday. We don't have floods since two days.

Given the volume and weight of water soaked into the wooden structure, it appears that it would easily give way. I hope the new one can withstand rainstorms like this one.

Hello @rsa101 Hopefully Next few months we could buy iron roofs. Yeah it did give way. So far we are not getting more storms than last week.

@Letranknight2015 Although rains continue to fall today, the intervals between them have grown longer, and the volume has decreased. Hopefully, it will continue because there are no more storms nearby to strengthen it. If this is the case, you can make the repair more feasible.

I wonder if the old torn ones can be used to put on the leaking roof first till a long term renovation is to be scheduled?

@Letranknight2015 it is not like you are not going to change the roof anyway. It is just a matter of months before you would do the renovation right?

Hello @id_peace Exactly, they could have put vulca seal on it and put it back. But they didn't, probably just want more money from it. But I admit the old roofs are rusted now.

It's sad when someone else decides that what we want isn't what they want. I hope the new roof with tarp works well for you.

Some houses were destroyed by the storm. The top roof got flown away. I hope the storm will not come again.

We are afraid of that @yanzalong . We had another tent before and when the storm came the tent was sent to our neighbor.

To be honest, I rather have a full renovation and not with those old wood. Maybe a cheaper roof but last longer @cacay1 but yeah I agree with you.
