Not to break up my July story...

I got a bulk email from an SF person in Houston letting a lot of SF friends who don't live in the Houston area or belonged to a club called 'Blake's Several.' (It had started as a Blake's Seven fan club.) I was neither, but I did know a lot of members and I went to conventions in Houston for a number of years. What was this email about? It was letting people know someone who had been very active in various Houston fan activities had passed away. I had met her in the early 1980s. Not because of Blake's Seven. No, she was a Man From U.N.C.L.E. fan, and so am I. I had been thinking of her yesterday, a lot! The last time I saw her was last April at the eclipse. I had driven her home the day after. I guess I should've expected something like this because I had been thinking of her. Lauren Keeper, you will be missed by more people than you will ever know.

I know she had cousins, but she had lots of friends. She got free tickets to Ireland but everyone she knew who could take off didn't have passports and those who did, couldn't take off. My mom went with her. When Mom came back she said Laurie was a lot like me. (Except extroverted!)

@ElicBxn That's the way life works sometimes. When I was working, I had plenty of money to do things but no time and my friends hated that... Now, I have plenty of time but my friends moved away during the pandemic and I don't really have the money to do fun things.

@ElicBxn Mom also worked after dad passed away... She drew his Social Security as well as getting payments for each of us kids still living at home. Mom wasn't good with money, though. She gave a LOT of it to the church she attended. When mom decided to quit working, she checked and she hadn't worked enough to draw Social Security on her own merit so she talked with one of my brothers and he paid whatever amount Social Security asked so mom could draw Social Security herself. (I have no clue how much he paid.) Mom traded the house I grew up in for a much smaller house in our city until she was in a bad car accident that broke most of the bones on the left side of her body... She went into a nursing home after that and passed away from a stroke a few years later.

Didn't know her, or what 'Blake's Seven' is/was, but sorry for your loss.
