Usually, the listed side effects of some Prescription drugs are quite scary. Makes one wonder if one should risk taking those meds. However the percentage of persons who may suffer ill effects is usually quite low, so we take the chance.
Now, how about a prescription drug with great side effects. We already know about Metformin ,the diabetes drug which assists in weight loss. That drug also supposedly has anti-aging properties.
A recent study has revealed that two drugs used for combating high blood pressure ( hypertension) have possible anti- aging properties . Good news for those suffering from this illness or not. Won't it be better to endeavor to find out the root cause of the illness and do whatever it takes to get off the meds - or think of the anti- aging benefits and simply go with the flow.
What do you think?

@snowy22315 It is partly due to the fact that it lowers blood sugar, which lowers inflammation. High blood sugar and inflammation is linked to dementia. It wouldn’t have helped my mom because her dementia was genetic, but in general, that is part, not all, of why Metformin helps prevent dementia.

I think people should do what they're most comfortable with. High BP could be controlled by losing weight but not everybody can lose weight without some type of help. I know about Graves' Disease and one of the symptoms of having it can be weight gain or sudden weight loss, whether the disease is under control with medication or not. As well as the opposite side of that coin, Hashimoto's Disease can force a person to gain weight, even if the disease is under control using medication... People with either disease can develop high blood pressure. If a person with either disease stops taking their medication, then their body can spin out of control, have a heart attack or a sudden stroke.

@Kandae11 1 to 2 percent of the people in the US have Hashimoto's Disease.
If someone with Hashimoto's Disease stop taking their medication, they'll start having symptoms like severe fatigue, heart problems, heart attack, stroke and coma...
I have Graves' Disease but the symptoms for it are similar to those for Hashimoto's Disease, heart problems, weight gain or loss, mental health problems and heart attack or stroke.

@Kandae11 Both diseases make interesting reading as long as you don't have the diseases yourself. And no, at this time, there is no cure for either disease. The doctors keep giving me different meds to help with some of the symptoms but that's the best they can do.
I am slowly losing some of the weight I gained but I'm always hungry, so it's a struggle... I can get distracted and catch myself eating without remembering when I went and got the food or candy. It's really annoying.

What I think is that I am glad I need no medication, First the expense and then the worries about side effects,

I have been taking Metformin for a number of years with no noticeable side effects. My sugar levels are stable but I have never lost weight or put it on. I wonder if that is why I have the sense of humour of an 8 year old
