I am not sure about the others. My lovely mother taught me the ABCs, numbers, colors, etc. during my preschool years, and I did not even enter kindergarten. I go straight to grade 1 at age 6 without the help of her in doing homework, projects, and the like. From primary school to university, I never even experienced going to a cram school. Unlike these days, most students are going to this kind of facility. For the main reason, it was not that popular during my time. Take note, we do not have middle school, and we go straight to high school after graduating from elementary. So, we entered a college or university at the age of 16.
What age do most pupil start school at your place?
Is cram school popular at your place?

Here in the UK children can go to nursery at 3 years old. Children start school the term they are 5. I don’t know what a cram school is ….we don’t have them here.

@Traceyjayne I guess the education systems is quite different there. We are still following the American's education system.

I started Kindergarten at age 6 because my birthday fell in October when the cut-off was September. So I was one of the oldest kids in my class at school. I already knew how to read, and could do simple math by the time I started kindergarten.
I've never heard of a "cram" school.

As far as I could remember, my younger sister was the one who entered kindergarten and learned something from her school lessons. When I entered grade 1, I was the youngest among my fellow classmates.
The term cram school refers to tutorial schools where students can have extra classes aside from their regular schools.

@Shavkat The only "extra" school kids got here up through Pretty graduating high school was when the kids were really doing badly in school and had to go to school during the summer holiday when most kids were out of school. (Teachers didn't like those classes during the summer and kids that had to go to summer school got picked on a LOT!)

@DaddyEvil The good thing was, we never had extra classes during summer vacation. Now, most parents are doing it because they do not want to attend taking good care of their kids.

@Shavkat You are right. Here if you depend on studying in the school only, it is hard to go to a very good university at the end since the exams will be harder than you have learned in the school. My son went to a good high school, and the teachers didn't teach them by the textbooks. Probably it's too "easy"? It's normal for them to have different exams, so finally they were used to it and wouldn't feel nervous to it. Besides, usually normal schools couldn't take care of each student and going to cram schools would be another option.

In my country, there are some students starting to have extra classes at cram schools. For my niece, it is hands-on to teach her at home. I personally trained and gave tips on how to study effectively. Now, she can manage on her own to learn without my guidance.
