I wrote this article, "Ricochet" ( https://www.mylot.com/post/3621501/ricochet ) back in May.
It is more relevant today.
Right now Brasil is forming trading deals with China to buy their coffee. This means that Brasil won't lose with the tariffs Trump implemented. The only losers will be Americans who will have to pay a lot more.
Trump is so igorant of world trade he has no idea of the involvement of China in over 200 countries, 120 of which it is the top trading partner.
Americans got what they voted for.

An expected return on the tariff income will be 600 dollars for each adult and 600 dollars for dependents, up to 2400 per household.
The US imports coffee from more than 140 countries currently. The US imports the most from Brazil, however there are many sources that will fill the gap.
As far as higher prices due to tariffs, Americans have choices to buy from more favored nations.
You posted this in May. It's now August. Last time I checked, the sky hasn't fallen.
Happy Independence Day btw.

Reality is that although we grown the best coffee in the world, we are a small country so can't fulfill the demands. I suppose other countries with lower tariffs might be able to take off some of the burden, but the price will rise.
Thank you ... it is now pouring rain so a few events are not going to happen as planned

Honest?
Coffee prices skyrocketed after Covid and have just recently come back down.
I'm certain that one of 140 countries will jump at the chance to fill the gap. I really don't expect prices will rise too much.
The tariff income is higher than anyone expected and the 1200 dollar check that I'll get will more than offset any price increases. If something costs too much, I'll choose another brand or do without.
That's a shame that the events for tonight will be less than planned.
Will you attend in the city or just watch from home?
Are there local celebrations too?

@Vikingswest1 the rain stopped so everything should be good. All over the country there will be celebrations. Everyone was wearing their colours... gold black and green... the flag.

He is ignorant of a lot of things but, the big thing is HE DOESN"T CARE! Now our coffee is going to cost more like several other items. But some of the items are in short supply due to drought and extreme weather.
