It’s that magical time of year again—when backpacks fly off the shelves and get stuffed full of calculators, binders, colored pencils, and other mysterious school supplies that somehow cost $87 even at the Dollar Store.
That got me wondering: when do the kids in your area head back to school? Around here, some schools a couple counties over have already kicked off the chaos this week, but ours don’t go back until Monday. We’ve got middle school orientation tomorrow (cue the awkward icebreakers), and high school orientation is Friday (cue the teens pretending not to care).
When I was a kid, we finished the school year in June and didn’t go back until around September 7th. But I lived in Oregon back then and went to a private Christian school, which might explain the extra-long summer—Jesus said rest on the 7th day, we took it a bit further.
So I’m curious—was it the same for you growing up? And what’s the schedule like where you are now? Or are your local kids already knee-deep in homework and cafeteria pizza? Let me know—I love seeing how wildly school calendars can vary!

Our kids get their long summer break from a few weeks before Christmas to early February. THey also get two-week breaks at Easter, July and September/October.

@thislittlepennyearns It's because our seasons are opposite I guess. We call it two semesters, four terms. So how many holiday period do your schools get? Where you are. I realise evey county/state is different. Our summer holiday is about six weeks; the others two weeks.

When I was a kid, the school year was early September to mid-June, then it eventually changed to late August (maybe September, sometimes). But that was so long ago, my memory may be fuzzy lol. Sounds about right, though.
Now, it's late August to mid-June. My bestie's son goes back on the 25th, I believe.
