Long weekend...busy with festivals.

Hello! mylotters. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. . It's a long weekend at our end. We had a holiday on Friday for Varamahalaxmi pooja. It's not a festival that is celebrated across India, but is a big celebration in Karnataka and neighbouring states. I too celebrated it as we are staying in this state for almost a decade and I am more than happy to bring any celebration in my home. So, it was busy busy day with cooking and having pooja in home And evening was all packed with socialization and visiting various houses who invited us for Haldi Kumkum. It's a ritual to invite ladies and young girls to your home after the religious pooja and offer them haldi ( turmeric powder for purity), kumkum ( vermillion, a symbol of strength) and coconut ( for peace and prosperity). They also offer fruits,cloth pieces, gifts like blouse piece, bangles and earrings. And not to forget the delicacies that they make to offer goddess.My daughter and I went to around a dozen houses. We got enough coconuts, fruits, gifts and delicacies like poranpolli, gujia, laddoos and lemon rice . We had our dinner visiting these houses. We got enough back home for husband. I invite them for similar thing in my house during Durga Puja because I celebrate that on a grand way. Next day on Saturday was Raksha Bandhan, a festival to celebrate siblings love and bonding. A day to celebrate the lovely relationship of brothers and sisters. I had my cousins and nephew staying in the city for celebration and family brunch. So, the last two days were all socializing with family and friends. And having some good time over some good food. Now, it's Sunday afternoon here. I feel that the weekend has gone so quick .
